HRF NHW NEWSLETTER AUTUMN 2022

  • by

Thank you for supporting our NHW through 2021 and 2022.

Your Committee

We believe it is time for our committee to stop being modest about our achievements. Our NHW, through the efforts of our committee and residents, has made great progress in the fight against crime. In the last six years, crime in our area has gone from 25-30 house burglaries per month, to hardly any in the last 12 months. It is a mark of our success that when minor crimes are committed (for example, house numbers, water pipes and wiring, which are very irritating, but minor), there is a sense of outrage on our Crimewatch Whatsapp Group. We have forged partnerships with most of the gated communities, Knysna Golf Club, the Private Hospital and the Anchorage flats, and have a strong relationship with SAPs, Allsound, the Community Police Forum and the Knysna Safety and Security Initiative. We have even painted the police station reception area!!

However, we cannot rest on our laurels and we are looking to refresh our committee. The average age of our committee is over 70 so we need some young blood. We need individuals with experience in IT, marketing/public relations and camera technology.

If you have one of these talents and are interested in helping to keep our area safe and secure, then please email Rob Jackson at robjackk@aol.com. You will be joining a team that is passionate about our area, and well respected by all the security partners.

Crime in our area

For the first 3 months of 2022, our area has, once again, one of the lowest crime statistics in Knysna. As mentioned above, most crime is of a minor nature but still irritating. This crime is generally committed during daylight hours. Our cameras do a fantastic job of intercepting potential criminals during the night hours (when they are actively monitored by Allsound). However, during the daytime, it is impossible to identify a criminal when there are so many people going about their normal business. The camera recordings are always checked, but can only be useful for crimes committed in front of one of our cameras. Please be vigilant at all times and keep the garage and shed doors closed and locked.

Keep safe and enjoy our beautiful suburb.
