Dear Member
Membership
Many thanks for renewing your NHW membership for 2021. We have 145 household members so far, slightly down on last year. Many residents have moved away from the area, and as yet we have not managed to capture the newcomers. If any of your neighbours are new or are not yet members, please ask them to contact Rob Jackson at robjackk@aol.com.
Also, many thanks to our loyal band of patrollers for their dedication. If you wish to join them, please contact Rob Pringle at rob.pringle@mweb.co.za.
We have tried hard to attract new members and have been reasonably successful. Knysna Golf Club, for example, has made a generous contribution, and Hunters Village is interested in becoming more involved in our NHW. We have dropped leaflets to new residents and have advertised on other local Whatsapp Groups. There are many contributors to these groups on issues such as baboons, garbage and municipality performance, but many have yet to be persuaded that by supporting our NHW CrimeWatch initiative, they are protecting the safety and security of themselves, their families and their employees.
Crime Report
Once again, we are happy to announce that our suburbs are amongst the safest areas in Knysna, despite being large and open. Weekly Allsound reports confirm that, in 2021, there have been just a few incidents in our area. The major one was a knife attack on a cyclist in Marlin Road. For us this was an isolated incident, however, in Knysna in general, there has been a large increase in knife crime. We cannot rest on our laurels and must continue to be vigilant and security conscious.
Cameras
Our camera system (comprising 16 cameras and soon to be 17) is proving to be very effective. You will note from the WhatsApp group that almost weekly, potential criminals (often known suspects and sometimes in possession of housebreaking equipment), are detected and removed from our area. As a result of the knife incident in Marlin road, we are moving the camera presently situated outside the Anchorage, to a position approximately 100m down Marlin Road to cover the footpath from Hornlee. This footpath is used by our domestic staff during the day and is a route for potential criminals at night time. We are negotiating with The Anchorage to site an additional camera on their building to cover the pathway between The Anchorage and the Day Hospital. Once again, this is a route used by potential criminals.
Thank you for your support. Stay vigilant and if you see anything suspicious when you are out walking or driving, call Allsound Immediately on 044 382 5589. Post on the Whatsapp Group afterwards if required.
