HRF NHW SUMMER 2023 NEWSLETTER

CRIME STATISTICS

After many years of low crime in our area we are experiencing a sharp
increase. This is due to the release from jail on Special Parole (thank you Mr
President) of over 100 local criminals. Knysna in general is also showing a sharp
increase for the same reasons. We must continue to be extra vigilant and take
the advice of your NHW and Security Company with regard to personal and
home security. We will give you advice and update you on crime on a regular
basis.

House break ins are on the increase as is theft out of motor vehicles. Advise
your domestic workers to travel in groups, and perhaps carry pepper spray, as
there have been attacks along the paths from Hornlee to our area. Better still,
pick them up from a safe area.

Our local security companies and law enforcement are stretched and need us
to be the eyes and ears to help prevent crime. Our local SAPS has gained the
award of best police station (at Colonel Level) in the Western Cape, so no lack
of effort there.

SAFER SPACES

Allsound and your NHW recently informed you of this new initiative. As from
the New Year, Allsound will own the CCTV cameras in our area and be
responsible for monitoring , maintenance and additions as necessary. You will
no longer pay the annual contribution to the NHW but to Allsound. They will
inform you of this change in more detail shortly.

AREA CAPTAINS

We have had a plan for some time, to divide our large suburb into smaller
areas. The recent increase in crime has made this a matter of urgency.
Already Fisherhaven residents have formed their own Whatsapp Group to
discuss local matters and crime, and more recently Lindsay Street residents
have formed a Whatsapp Group and begun patrolling their area. These are
fantastic initiatives and we would like other areas to join in and formalize this
under the umbrella of your NHW. More information on the various areas will
follow and we will be looking for 2 or more residents to manage each area.

NEW WEBSITE

Your HRFNHW (Crimewatch) is completely separate from the HRF Residents
Association (HRFRA). It has to be, as the NHW is accredited by the Western
Cape Department of Community Safety (DOCS) and has to abide by the
procedures and rules laid down for NHWs. The HRFNHW and HRFRA have
separate bank accounts and both groups are financially independent.

The HRFRA is growing thanks to great efforts by residents to improve our area.
As a further step to confirm our separate status, we have decided to create our
own website. hrfnw.co.za and email plus a facebook page. This is currently
under construction and will take some time as the work is being done as ever
by volunteers.

In the meantime, you can access information, particularly, Security Hints and
Tips on hrfra.co.za.

CHRISTMAS PERIOD

The Christmas period presents increased opportunities for criminals. We will
be sending out advice for this special period shortly.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT
